What the NGX is

The exchange, not a shop

The Nigerian Exchange, usually called the NGX, is the market where shares of listed Nigerian companies are bought and sold. It is operated by Nigerian Exchange Group. Before the group structure, many people still used the older name Nigerian Stock Exchange, or NSE. The letters NGX on a share refer to that market, not to a single company.

A listed company has shares that outside holders can trade through the exchange’s rules. Each company is given a short ticker, such as a bank or an industrial name, so quotes can be identified quickly. The ticker is a label. It is not a recommendation.

What a share represents

A share is a unit of ownership in a company. If you hold shares, you are a part-owner of that company, not a lender, unless you hold a different instrument such as a bond. Companies may pay dividends when the board declares them. They may also pay nothing in a given year. The share price moves as buyers and sellers agree on trades. Past movement does not tell you what the next trade will be.

The NGX also has rules on disclosure. Listed companies publish results and announcements through the exchange. Reading those primary documents matters more than a headline or a social post.

What Gopexly shows

Gopexly keeps a table of NGX prices so you can look up a ticker, see the latest stored price and daily change, and read what other members have posted in public. Those figures are for education. Gopexly is not a broker and does not give investment advice. For education only.

You do not place a trade on Gopexly. Buying or selling a listed share happens through a stockbroker licensed in Nigeria, using the market’s own process. The pages under Learn describe that process in general terms and do not name a broker you should use.
