Dangote IPO Enters Final Week With Buyers in 90 Countries

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals says its initial public offering has drawn subscriptions from more than 90 countries, including 51 of Africa's 54 nations, and that "no further extension of the offer period is currently planned" before it closes on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. The statement, issued on Sunday by Dangote Group Chief Financial Officer Murat Erden and reported by Punch and BusinessDay, came days after Renaissance Capital Africa raised its valuation of the refinery to ₦700.41 per share, above the ₦525 offer price. Here is what is new and what to check in the last eight days.
What the company said on Sunday
The refinery says subscriptions have come from more than 90 countries, including 51 in Africa. It says the offer was the biggest ever launched on the Nigerian capital market on its opening day and passed the previous African record within 10 days, with demand from retail investors, pension funds, asset managers and fintech platforms. Work with partners in Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia and Kenya helped widen access outside Nigeria.
"This offering represents far more than a capital-raising exercise," Erden said. "It is a landmark opportunity for Africans and global investors alike."
BusinessDay noted that the company did not disclose how much has been raised, how many people have applied, or how demand splits between Nigerian and foreign investors. Until allotment, treat the record claims as the company's own description.

Stronger results, and a higher analyst valuation
For the nine months to 30 September 2026, the refinery reported revenue of $22.5 billion, up 144%, and net profit of $4.7 billion, against a loss of $117.2 million a year earlier. EBITDA rose to $5.5 billion from $627.6 million, and it swung from net debt of $1.73 billion to net cash of $651 million. The Guardian gives more precise figures of $22.48 billion in revenue and $4.73 billion in profit. BusinessDay noted that the figures have not been independently verified.
"Our financial performance has already advanced well beyond the baseline assumptions used in determining the IPO valuation," Erden said, according to Punch and BusinessAMLive. BusinessDay attributed a similar remark to "a source close to the refinery's management" rather than to Erden by name.
Renaissance Capital Africa, in a 16 October update, raised its estimated value to ₦700.41 per share from ₦619.47, 33.4% above the ₦525 offer price. The results beat its forecast of $2.82 billion in net profit. The firm credited stronger refining margins, not lower costs, and noted that crude cost lags and hedging may also have helped. Third-quarter EBITDA margin rose to 34.1% from 18.7% in the first half.
An analyst's valuation is an opinion, not a guaranteed listing price.
The cross-border push
On 15 October NGX Group took the offer to Cairo and Addis Ababa, after earlier stops in Nairobi and Botswana, Punch reported. The Egyptian Exchange said Egyptian Depositary Receipts could give its investors a route in. "The Dangote Refinery offer provides a practical opportunity to address some of the infrastructure barriers to cross-border investment," said NGX Group Chief Executive Temi Popoola.
Access Bank's FAQ says the offer is not being marketed in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or Japan, though Nigerians abroad with a BVN and bank account can apply. The company has not said how much of its 90-country reach comes from Nigerians living abroad.
How to apply before the deadline
- Use an official channel. The list on ipo.dangote.com includes the NGX Invest portal, bank portals such as Access, GTBank, UBA and Zenith, and broker apps such as InvestNaija and CardinalStone.
- Have your details ready. You need a BVN and a bank account in your own name. A CSCS account helps but is not required.
- Pay in full and keep the receipt. Access Bank says an application cannot be changed or cancelled once submitted.
- Know the extras. A proposed scheme would give retail holders of at least 10 shares one bonus share after 12 months and another after 24, subject to approval. Dividends attract 10% withholding tax.
What this means for investors
- Plan for 27 October. No further extension is "currently planned". It is safer not to count on another delay.
- Strong demand can mean fewer shares. If the offer is oversubscribed, larger applications may be scaled back and the excess refunded.
- Your money will be tied up. Shares are credited within 15 business days after the SEC approves the basis of allotment, so cash paid now cannot be traded for weeks. Compare that with the 15.90% one-year Treasury bill rate set on 14 October. Our earlier post sets out the full timetable.
