New week on the NGX: banks are down, the index is still up 59%. Four dates to know
Friday's close: the All-Share Index slipped 0.07% (-167.40 pts) to 247,539.73, and market value eased about ₦108.70bn to ₦160.73trn. That made it another down week (-0.33%), yet the index is still up 59.07% year to date.
Last week was a sector story more than an index story. The Banking Index fell 3.15% while the Oil & Gas Index rose 3.13%. On Friday alone,
$GTCO dropped 2.27% to ₦124.80 and Zenith Bank lost 1.33% to ₦126.00, while Fidelity Bank climbed 4.73% to ₦21.05.
Four dates on the calendar this week and next:
1. Tue Oct 20: GTCO pays its ₦1.00 interim dividend. It lands in your bank account only if your e-dividend mandate is on file with the registrar.
2. Fri Oct 23: Zenith Bank's ₦1.50 interim qualifies (register closes Oct 26, payment Oct 30).
3. Through Fri Oct 23: Stanbic IBTC's register stays closed. Its ₦4.50 interim, already qualified, pays Nov 13.
4. Tue Oct 27: the Dangote Refinery IPO offer at ₦525 per share closes.
Worth watching today: whether the bank selling eases as these dividend dates arrive, and whether energy names like
$ARADEL (₦1,499.90 on Friday) hold last week's gains.
Holding any of these? Add them to your Gopexly portfolio so dividend dates and daily moves sit next to the stocks you actually own.
Not financial advice.
