Banks put about ₦307bn back on the board. Three names to watch as Thursday opens

Where we start: on Wednesday the All-Share Index rose 0.19% to 254,762.81, its second gain in a row. Market value climbed about ₦307bn to ₦165.42trn, and the year-to-date gain is about 63.72%. Breadth flipped positive too — 27 stocks rose and 23 fell. Banks did most of the lifting. The Banking Index gained 0.72%. GTCO logo$GTCO rose 5.13% to ₦123.00, UBA logo$UBA added 2.68% to ₦42.10, and ZENITHBA$ZENITHBA gained 2.65% to ₦120.00. Fidelity Bank rose 1.69% to ₦24.00. Insurance went the other way, down 0.54%. Three things worth watching in today's session: 1. Whether the bank rally has follow-through, or whether profit-taking shows up early. 2. Transcorp Power after closing up 9.97% at ₦203.00, just under the 10% daily limit. Near-limit moves can reverse or extend. 3. Ikeja Hotel. Its interim dividend of ₦0.03 qualifies Friday, Nov 6. The register then closes Nov 9–13, with payment Friday, Dec 4. Reminder: the qualification date is when you must already be on the register, and trades take time to settle — buying on the day itself is usually too late. Ask your broker how timing works for your account. Also next week: Okomu ₦11.50 interim on Nov 11, Berger ₦0.50 on Nov 12, and Seplat's US5c plus US14c special on Nov 12. Why it matters: Wednesday's lift was bank-led and fairly broad. Today's open will show whether that momentum carries, or whether attention shifts to names with near-term corporate dates.
