NGX wrap: ASI -0.09%, but more stocks rose than fell
Tuesday's close: the NGX All-Share Index eased another 0.09% to 247,513.63, and about ₦144.54bn came off market value (now ₦160.71trn). Year to date, the index is still up 59.06%.
The interesting part isn't the red close — it's the breadth. About 24 stocks advanced against 21 decliners, so the index fell even while more names finished higher. That's what happens when the heavyweights move.
Banks did most of the damage again. The NGX Banking Index dropped 0.79%, with
$WEMABANK down 2.58%, First HoldCo -2.25%,
$GTCO -1.77%, AC$ACCESSCORP -0.88%, and ZE$ZENITHBANK -0.78%. Access was also the most traded by volume (~57m shares); GTCO led by value. Insurance fell 0.38%. Consumer goods (+0.14%) and oil & gas (+0.11%) cushioned some of the hit — Oando rose about 4%.
Top gainers: eTranzact +9.96% (₦14.35), Wapic +7.83% (₦2.48), DAAR Communications +7.25% (₦1.48). Livestock Feeds climbed another 6.92% to ₦15.45. Biggest losers: Legend Internet -6.85% (₦3.40) and Omatek -6.43% (₦1.31).
Activity cooled: ~394m shares across ~38,660 deals, worth about ₦21.4bn.
On the calendar:
$STANBIC's ₦4.50 interim qualifies Thursday, Oct 15. GTCO pays its ₦1.00 interim on Oct 20.
Two red days in a row, both mild — and both led by banks. How did your portfolio finish Tuesday?
